Fall Fun in the Northern Black Hills: October 2026 Events

From pumpkin patches in Spearfish to Deadweird in Deadwood, here’s what’s happening October 5–31.

October gives us plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy the Northern Black Hills. A Saturday at the pumpkin patch, an evening of live music, a bowl of chili with neighbors, or a Halloween costume worth talking about—there’s something on the calendar for just about everyone.

At CENTURY 21 Spearfish Realty, we love sharing the places and traditions that make our communities feel like home. Here are some fall events to enjoy in Spearfish, Sturgis, Belle Fourche, Deadwood, and Lead this month.

A Fall Favorite: Spearfish Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch

October 9–11, 16–18, 23–25, and October 30–31 | Spearfish Valley Produce

Pick a pumpkin, explore the corn maze, and make time for the farm’s slides and play areas. Weekend hayrides add to the fun, and Crow Peak makes a memorable backdrop for a fall family photo.

Posted hours are Fridays 4–8 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.–8 p.m., and Sundays 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Activities close at dark, and admission ends one hour before closing. Maze admission is $15 for ages 13 and up, $10 for ages 4–12, and free for children 3 and under. Pumpkins are sold separately.

Early October: Music, Theater, and a Downtown Festival

Campfire Acoustic — October 6

Crow Peak Brewing Co., Spearfish, 7 p.m. Acoustic music around the fire.

Fiddler on the Roof — October 9–11 and 16–18

BHSU’s Woodburn Theatre, Spearfish. Friday and Saturday performances at 7 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m.

Spooky Sprint 5K — October 10

Evans Park, Spearfish, 8 a.m. A seasonal run for all ages; minors require an accompanying parent or guardian.

Sturgis Fall Festival — October 10

Harley-Davidson Rally Point | 2–6 p.m.

Head downtown for a fall vendor market, live music, tractor hayrides, and children’s activities. This year’s featured vegetable is the potato, with themed competitions joining the celebration. Beer and wine sampling and a pub crawl offer additional options for adults.

Midmonth: Ghost Stories, Chili, and Songwriters

Bellman Brown Bag Ghost Stories — October 14

Matthews Opera House, Spearfish, noon–1 p.m. Bring lunch for stories from the Black Hills Story Tellers. Event details.

NHTC Beans & Brews Chili Feed — October 15

The Barn at Aspen Acres | 4:30–6:30 p.m.

Sample chili, vote for your favorite, and support Northern Hills Training Center. The fundraiser also features a dessert competition and auction. Tickets are $12, with children under 5 admitted free. The venue is at 11011 Kellem Lane, outside Spearfish.

Wild West Songwriters Festival — October 15–17

Various locations throughout Deadwood

Hear familiar songs from the people who wrote them. The festival brings national and regional songwriters together for free songwriter rounds around town, along with ticketed experiences. The Saturday evening Songwriters’ Showcase takes place at Deadwood Mountain Grand.

Pumpkin Smash! — October 17

Skyridge Field, 6775 E. Colorado Blvd., Spearfish | Listed as an all-day event

This tournament benefits BHSU softball and includes a children’s activity area and costume contest. It’s a chance to enjoy a community event while supporting local student athletes.

Spooky Evenings and Late-October Outings

Paranormal Investigations of the Adams House

October 10, 11, 16, 23, and 24 | Historic Adams House, Deadwood

Join Deadwood History and Black Hills Paranormal Investigations for an evening inside the historic home. Participants use paranormal investigation equipment alongside the team. Reservations are required, and participants must be at least 12. Check the listing for your chosen date for times and availability.

Ghosted: Mysterious Happenings in the Hills — October 22

The Green outside Leones’ Creamery, Spearfish, 7 p.m. Haunted history with Black Hills Paranormal Investigations. Bring a chair and blanket.

Halloween Skate Night — October 23

Spearfish Rec & Aquatics Center, 4–7:30 p.m. Family-friendly costumes encouraged. Admission: $10 per skater; $5 per spectator.

Pumpkinfest — October 24

Tri-State Museum, 415 Fifth Avenue, Belle Fourche | 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

The Invisible Mammal Film Screening — October 26

Matthews Opera House, Spearfish, 6–9 p.m. A free screening exploring bats and conservation.

A Midnight Menagerie — October 29

Matthews Opera House, Spearfish, 7 p.m. Music, circus arts, and theatrical entertainment. Costumes encouraged.

Deadweird: Deadwood’s Halloween Weekend

October 30–31 | Deadwood | Main parties for ages 21 and older

If dressing up is your favorite part of Halloween, put Deadweird on your calendar. This two-day celebration brings music, dancing, and creative costumes to historic Deadwood.

Friday, October 30: Monster Ball. Deadwood Mountain Grand Event Center hosts the party from 7–10 p.m., with live music, dancing, and a People’s Choice Costume Contest. Admission is $10.

Saturday, October 31: Costume Contest & Party. The Historic Franklin Hotel hosts festivities from 6–10 p.m. Costume judging runs from 6–9 p.m., with winners announced at 9:30 p.m. The contest advertises $5,000 in cash and prizes. Contest registration costs $5 per person, cash only.

Halloween Treats for the Family

There are also plenty of opportunities for younger Halloween fans to show off their costumes.

  • October 30, Spearfish: Treats on Main, 600 block of Main Street, 3–5 p.m.; NHTC Trunk or Treat near The Copper Door, 4–6 p.m.; Monument Health Spearfish Hospital Trunk or Treat, 5:30–6:30 p.m. Spearfish details.
