Description  – In its 68th season, the National Players present Shakespeare’s classic, “Hamlet,” for one night only, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Apr. 5. In “Hamlet,” the prince of Denmark returns home from school to find his family life in ruins, his father dead, his mother remarried, and his uncle (now stepfather) ruling the country. When his father’s ghost appears with dire announcements, Hamlet struggles to redefine his life and find his way forward. This Subscription Series event replaces the canceled Mar. 24 performance of “Mother King.” All subscribers have seats at this event. Individual tickets are available for $25 adults, $10 youth and BHSU Student. Event Description: Linda Black Elk (Catawba Nation) will provide a brief introduction to Native Science and discuss its applicability to the “No Dakota Access Pipeline” water protectors movement. Linda Black Elk Linda (Catawba Nation) is an ethnobotanist specializing in teaching about culturally important plants and their uses as food and medicine. Linda works to protect food sovereignty, traditional plant knowledge, and environmental quality as an extension of the fight against hydraulic fracturing and the fossil fuels industry. She has written for numerous publications, and is the author of “Watoto Unyutapi”, a field guide to edible wild plants of the Dakota people. Linda is the mother to three Lakota boys and is a lecturer in science education at Sitting Bull College in Fort Yates, North Dakota. Join us for an afternoon of enlightening discussion on Monday, April 17th at 4PM at the Jacket Legacy Room in the Student Union.

Description – The Matthews presents its fifth Subscription Series event with a live concert by Peter Mawanga & The Amaravi Movement at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Apr. 20. The band hails from the country of Malawi, in southeastern Africa. Peter Mawanga is a self-proclaimed “Voice for the Voiceless.” Writing in his vernacular Chichewa, his socially conscious lyrics speak for Malawi’s underprivileged. The music is equally Malawian. Traditional melodies and rhythms form the backbone of original songs orchestrated with modern and traditional instruments, a sound Mawanga terms Afro-vibes. Individual tickets are $25 adults, $10 youth and BHSU students.
